Telescopic Shafts
As UK Bauku license partners Cygnet Fabrications are able to construct and supply large diameter telescopic leachate pumping and monitoring shafts. These are built from the base up and designed to accommodate settlement resulting from the progressive bio-degradation of landfill waste mass.
Why they work
Settlement of the landfill mass inevitably creates a ”skin friction” between the waste and the shaft surface. The waste effectively grips the shaft and transfers a gradual but significant resultant axial load to the shaft. Shear pins are installed within the coupling sections and these are designed to shear off under pressure allowing the shaft to settle with the waste.
Designed for purpose
At Cygnet we assess the waste density, depth, classification and average temperature characteristics of your site and this information is used to define the exact pipe profile required for each shaft section to withstand the imposed radial stress of the waste mass .
Ease of installation
Bauku shafts are constructed as integrated inner and outer units with a typical pre-settlement height of 3.5m. The shafts accommodate up to 30% settlement of the waste mass and can be installed and extended by non-specialist contractors or site operatives.
